UPHP Rated Number One Medicare – Medicaid Plan in the Nation; According to 2021 CAHPS Survey

Upper Peninsula HealthPlan (UPHP) has been rated the number one Medicare-Medicaid Health Plan in the nation, based on overall rating of the health plan according to the 2021 Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) survey.

The health plan has received a top score for the past four years in a row, but has reached number one in 2021. Under the Medicare-Medicaid Financial Alignment Initiative, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) measures consumer experience in multiple ways, including beneficiary surveys such as the CAHPS survey.

Enrollees are asked to evaluate their health care experience over the previous six months, rating their health plan on a scale from 0 to 10, where 0 is the worst plan possible and 10 is the best health plan possible. UPHP scored 91 out of 100 for 2021.

“We are honored to receive this recognition. This rating comes directly from members based on their personal experience, which makes it all the more meaningful. Working together with our staff and community, we strive to provide the best care options possible for our members,” said Melissa Holmquist, chief executive officer, UPHP. “It gives us great pride to know that our members have confidence in us and continue to grow that confidence year after year.”

About CAHPS

Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems(CAHPS) is a set of surveys that ask patients to report on their health care experiences. The surveys are free to anyone who wants to use them. They focus on aspects of healthcare quality that patients find important and are well-equipped to assess, such as the communication skills of providers and ease of access to health care services.
