Genesee County Community Safety Resource Fair receives $4,500 in grants to expand health care supports
The annual Genesee County Community Safety Resource Fair, hosted by Crime Stoppers of Flint & Genesee County, will receive a $2,500 grant from the Michigan Association of Health Plans (MAHP) and $2,000 from Molina Healthcare of Michigan to partner with health care providers and community advocacy organizations to expand awareness of mental health support, provide resources for healthy living, and offer assistance to those affected by crime.
MAHP’s $2,500 funding is being made available as part of MAHP’s Tackling Health Care Disparities grant program, which encourages community-based organizations to collaborate and deploy local initiatives to create better health outcomes and improve health equity. As a member of MAHP, Molina Healthcare of Michigan is also making an additional contribution of $2,000 to the cause, raising the total grant contribution to $4,500.
This year’s Community Safety Resource Fair will be held at Berston Field House on Saturday, May 17t, 2025, from 11a.m. to 2p.m. Nearly 40 local community-based organizations will attend, raising awareness of the negative health impacts associated with exposure to crime and how those affected can access local support and services. The grant funding will help connect attendees at the Fair with agencies that can help manage chronic conditions and promote greater access to mental health support.
“In Flint and Genesee County, our community faces significant healthcare disparities driven by crime and poverty, which are deeply intertwined with residents’ mental and physical health challenges,” said Julie Lopez, Executive Director for Crime Stoppers of Flint & Genesee County. “This grant will assist us in providing greater awareness of the health care supports and services in our local community that can help residents overcome barriers to access and improve health outcomes. This is a collaborative effort, and we are all committed to building a healthier, safer community through crime prevention and community engagement.”
