On A Dragonfly’s Wings receives $2,500 grant to fund children’s mental wellness camp
On A Dragonfly’s Wings, a nonprofit organization working to break the stigma of mental health and suicide, received a $2,500 grant from the Michigan Association of Health Plans (MAHP) to help fund a week-long mental wellness camp for 4th-9th graders in Oakland County.
This funding is being made available as part of MAHP’s Tackling Health Care Disparities in Michigan grant program, which encourages community-based organizations to collaborate and deploy local initiatives aimed at creating better health outcomes and improving health equity.
“At our mental wellness camp, we help children discover new hobbies and activities that bring them joy, peace, and serenity,” said Kris Miller, founder and executive director of On A Dragonfly’s Wings. “We are grateful to MAHP for providing funds that will support activities such as nature hikes, movement, journaling, art therapy, music, animal care, gardening and so much more.”
On A Dragonfly’s Wings also provides resources such as support groups, fundraisers and other events to Oakland County residents.
“On A Dragonfly’s Wings is providing life-saving services to children and families in Oakland County,” said Dominick Pallone, executive director of the Michigan Association of Health Plans. “Representative Harris helped bring On A Dragonfly’s Wings and their work to our attention and we are honored to support an organization that is working to make Michigan a healthier place and is helping families get the resources they need.”
Offered at no cost to families, On A Dragonfly’s Wings’ mental wellness camp aims to provide children with a toolbox of coping mechanisms to help them navigate emotions in a safe and effective way.
“The resources that On A Dragonfly’s Wings is providing are essential for protecting youth,” said Michigan State Representative Mike Harris (R-Waterford). “I am grateful that MAHP is investing in the young people of Waterford. With this generous support, On A Dragonfly’s Wings will have the funding they need to continue making a difference in the community.”
Representative Harris helped bring On A Dragonfly’s Wings and the organization’s work to MAHP’s attention.
