The Food Bank Council of Michigan today announced a new board member who will help support the nonprofit’s work to create a food secure state through advocacy, resource management, and collaboration among stakeholders and Michigan’s unified food bank network.

“It is an honor to be part of the Food Bank Council of Michigan and work to advance a unified strategy to proactively address food equity, insecurity, and hunger. Food Banks across this state hold the keys to unlocking a much-needed food secure Michigan and I am honored to be part of the Board of Directors,” said Dominick Pallone.

Pallone is currently the Executive Director for the Michigan Association of Health Plans (MAHP), a Lansing based organization that represents 11 health plans who collectively provide coverage for more than 3.5 million Michiganders.

MAHP’s mission is to provide leadership for the promotion and advocacy of high quality, accessible health care for the residents of Michigan.

Prior to joining MAHP, Pallone was a partner at Midwest Strategy Group, a multi-client lobby firm where he specialized in health care, state appropriations, Medicaid, higher education, transportation, and state procurement. He has also served as staff within the state House and Senate, most notably as Committee Clerk for the Senate Appropriations Committee and the Joint Capital Outlay Subcommittee.

“As we emerge from the past three years, the need for greater collaboration in order to advance our mission of creating greater access to food people both want and need has become even more apparent,” said Dr. Phil Knight, executive director, Food Bank Council of Michigan. “Healthcare and food banks are on the cutting edge of the type of partnerships that will allow patients greater access to more and better food. Dominick is a great addition to the Board because of his knowledge and insight into these systems. More importantly, he is dedicated to seeing people who live under the toxic stress of food insecurity be supported. We are thrilled Mr. Pallone is joining us in our mission.”

Pallone earned his bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Michigan State University, James Madison College. During his academic years, he served on the NCAA Student Athlete Advisory Council representing Division I student-athletes.
