2021 Health Insurance Open Enrollment Kicks Off November 1
Michigan residents and families looking to apply for affordable and quality individual health insurance can do so beginning Sunday, Nov. 1 through the Health Insurance Marketplace. Open enrollment closes on Tuesday, Dec. 15 and individuals must enroll or renew by Dec. 15 to ensure coverage on Jan. 1, 2021.
The health insurance marketplace is a federally operated marketplace for individuals who do not have health insurance coverage through their employer, Medicare, Medicaid or the Healthy Michigan Plan.
“This is an important window for Michiganders who want to enroll or renew coverage—or make changes to their plan,” said Dominick Pallone, executive director of the Michigan Association of Health Plans (MAHP). “And it’s an opportunity for residents to re-evaluate their plan by shopping around and comparing premiums and benefits of other health plans.”
For Michiganders interested in previewing plans, MAHP proudly represents 6 health care plans which participate in the Marketplace. Michiganders can check the MAHP interactive state map for health plans available in every county here. To get an idea of rates visit this website and to access the marketplace, visit healthcare.gov. Tax credits and subsidies, which offset the premium costs and are based on your income, are available and almost 90 percent of enrollees qualify.
“Due to the COVID pandemic, health insurance plans and coverage options have changed this year and it’s more important than ever to explore mental health benefits, telehealth options and more,” added Pallone.
