Call your legislator and tell them to STOP Surprise Medical Billing

A little girl, weighing only 8 pounds and with a congenital heart disease, recently went into the hospital for a scheduled open-heart surgery to save her life. Fortunately, the heroic work by the doctors and hospitals saved her life after the surgery and a 17-day hospital stay.

 Unfortunately, an out-of-network anesthesiologist provided her care that day. After accepting payment from her Michigan insurer, an insurer providing care to 230,000 Michiganders, the anesthesiologist balance billed this family over $5,0000 for their services. And now doctors want to arbitrate every surprise medical bill which would increase your health care costs.

 The last thing a family should have to worry about is the predatory practices from these rare, out-of-network providers who balance bill patients after accepting fair payments from insurers. Payments that other providers accept as payment in full.

 MAHP supports House Bills 4459, 4460, 4490, and 4491 and Senate Bills 570, 571, 572 and 573 which would put a stop to these predatory practices. Call your legislators below and tell them to STOP Surprise Medical Bills.
