Millennials and the Health Insurance Marketplace in Michigan
Authored by: Jeff Romback, Deputy Director, Policy and Planning And Millennial
Health Insurance… fun topic, right? One of these real “adult” decisions you’ve had to make every year at work or through the Marketplace. Also, who knew there was a National Insurance Day? Thanks for visiting our blog. We’re here to help you learn more about your insurance.
Millennials, like you, are really important for healthcare. One, we want you to be and healthy. Healthy people are happier and more productive. Two, the more younger, healthy people like you enroll, the better it gets for the whole system. Millennials make up 25 percent of our Marketplace enrollment and we want that number to grow!
If you’re getting insurance through the Marketplace or thinking about it, you’re in the right place. Our Marketplace Plans offer the Essential Health Benefits (EHBs). These include preventive coverage, like annual visits and birth control, prescription drug coverage, mental and behavioral health, and maternity coverage. There’s a lot of other coverage too. (Click Here if you want to see all the benefits.)
If you’re worried about affording it (another adult thing) there’s help for that. There are tax credits from the government to help. More than 80 percent of people on the Marketplace receive tax credits. These credits lower the premium you pay. Most people, more than 80 percent, on the Marketplace pay less than $200 a month for coverage and some pay as low as $71. Your premium is based on your income. An ER Visit could be as much as $2,000 without insurance. You’ll save money by having insurance.
Read below for a list of member plans offering on-and off-Marketplace plans and links to their information. Take a look, learn a bit more. It’s important to be and stay healthy (another adult thing) and our plans want to help.
