VAI names insurance exec to board

A local health insurance leader has joined the board of the Van Andel Institute.

VAI said yesterday it appointed Joan Budden, president and CEO of Grand Rapids-based Priority Health, which is part of Spectrum Health, to its board.

“As a leading biomedical research Institute, we strive to have leaders on our board who possess experience and vision for the future in health care,” said David Van Andel, chairman and CEO, VAI. “Joan possesses both of those attributes, and we are thrilled to add her to our talented leadership team.”

Budden is active in industry groups and serves on several statewide and regional boards, including the Michigan Women’s Foundation, Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce and Detroit Economic Club.
